Sometimes I spend hours getting lost on the PurseForum. We started the forum in 2005 to have a community where handbag lovers around the world could share everything and anything bag-related. Over the past seven years, the forum has transformed into much more, but I still find myself drawn to reveal threads to see what other members are buying.

A reveal thread recently posted in the Chanel forum immediately stopped me in my tracks. A few months ago, Amanda brought you news of the blinged out Chanel bags for the Bellagio re-opening, and it seems as though one of our members tracked down one of those rare beauties and scooped it up.

It makes sense that we’d start the Monday after Mother’s Day with pictures of Jennifer Garnerand two of her three adorable kidlets. Garner is probably the closest thing to a “normal mom” that Hollywood has to offer – she’s after seen taking her brood to and from school and extracurricular activities in the types of outfits that any busy mom would choose for maximum comfort. Fashion just doesn’t seem to be her obsession, and in my book, that’s not a condemnable offense by any stretch of the imagination.

Jennifer often carries a good bag, though, and in these pictures she’s got two. I can’t identify the black one, but the pink and orange bag you see here is the Anya Hindmarch Nevis Rubber Tote. I’ve loved this bright, versatile tote for a long time, and thesmooth rubberized material makes it a no-brainer for a mom; snacks and drinks and sticky little hands won’t ruin it like they would a leather tote.

When we pick men’s bags to write about, we usually try to find things that will appeal to a wide audience. Men in general are newer to this whole bag thing than women are, and although some of you guys are incredibly advanced and toting travel Birkins like it’s your job, we think you’ll agree that it’s your slightly more stylistically challenged brethren who need our man bag guidance the most. For this Man Bag Monday, though, we’d like to offer you a few pieces that ought to appeal to the man bag veterans out there, and they’re all Gucci.

Gucci is among the few premier designer brands that’s willing to go out on a limb with its men’s accessories designs, both when it comes to color and detail. These designs aren’t for the dudes who are worried that someone might mistake their bag for a purse, but that’s what makes them great – they’re incredibly luxurious and highly detailed in a way that’s not at all self-conscious of what a man “should” carry. Ladies, I wouldn’t blame you for picking up one of these designs for yourself either. I’d happily own any of them.

With yesterday being Mother’s Day, it seemed quite appropriate that the evening’s episode of Mad Men pivoted so heavily on Betty. By extension, Betty protege Sally Draper also figured prominently in the plot, which is usually one of my very favorite types of Mad Men episode. The odds that Sally’s going to stab someone with a letter opener before this show goes off the air continue to increase, much to my delight.

Last night’s installment wasn’t great, not in the same way that some of the episodes we’ve seen over the last few weeks have been great, but I did get a couple good cackles here and there. As best I can tell, the theme of the evening was “the grass is always greener,” which is something I had written in my notes before it was actually verbalized by one of the characters. A little too on-the-nose, even for a show that’s often a bit on-the-nose, but I’m not mad at it. Well, not too mad, anyway.

Even though I didn’t get to spend Mother’s Day itself with my mom, I had the chance to see her for the entire week before and it was quite the treat. We celebrated early, and I had it in my mind that my mom needed a new handbag that would work with her personal style and that she would be able to carry it for years to come.

My mom and I took a drive down to my favorite mall, Bal Harbour Shops in North Miami Beach, to see what the Hermes store had in stock. There were no Birkins or Kellys on the shelves, but that’s not what we were there for. I know my mom’s style.
